In the Big Bash League (BBL), the last time a Bangladeshi cricketer participated was on January 19, 2015, with Shakib Al Hasan representing the tournament. Rishad Hossain missed the opportunity to join the BBL last season as he did not receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board due to commitments in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
However, for the upcoming season, Hobart Hurricanes have successfully recruited Rishad, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has approved his full NOC for the tournament. Shahriar Nafees, in charge of cricket operations at BCB, confirmed this development to The Daily Star.
The Big Bash tournament is scheduled to take place from December 14 to January 25. With the BPL expected to commence on December 19, it is unlikely that Rishad will participate in the BPL this season.
Rishad was selected in the BBL draft by Ricky Ponting, the former Australian captain and current Head of Strategy at Hobart Hurricanes. Ponting emphasized Rishad’s prowess as a wicket-taking bowler, highlighting the team’s need for a spin-bowler like him to secure wickets in the middle overs. He praised Rishad’s impressive record, citing his ability to be a game-changer with his leg-spin skills.
