“Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy: Gov’t Must Uphold People’s Will”

-

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Deputy Leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher emphasized today that the interim government’s role is to represent the people’s will rather than favor any specific political party. Speaking at a seminar in Dhaka, he highlighted the government’s commitment to reforms, justice, and elections, cautioning that failure to fulfill these objectives would constitute a breach of promise.

The seminar, titled “From October 28 to August 5: The Dark Shadow of Fascism and the Challenges of Tomorrow’s Bangladesh,” was organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka South at the Institution of Diploma Engineers. Taher expressed concerns about the resurgence of old fascism and the potential consequences of new authoritarianism, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values.

Regarding the national political landscape, Taher criticized the opposition’s stance on key issues, particularly highlighting the significance of the July Charter. He rebuked the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for its objections and called for a unified approach towards national interests, stressing the need for cooperation in conducting upcoming referendums and elections.

Taher urged the BNP to prioritize national unity and cooperate with the government on electoral processes, emphasizing the importance of honoring the sacrifices made for the country’s progress. He also called for dialogue between political parties to address the current crisis and work towards a collective solution that reflects the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people.
