The Hindu community leaders have expressed worry regarding recent incidents of false information, intimidation, and mistreatment aimed at ISKCON Bangladesh and other religious minority groups. They have called on the government to implement effective measures to protect national unity and peace, urging citizens to unite against divisive influences. This appeal was made during a collective press briefing in Dhaka, organized by various Hindu religious bodies.
Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari, the general secretary of ISKCON, delivered a prepared statement during the event. He highlighted that certain factions with ulterior motives are intentionally disseminating lies, rumors, and propaganda against ISKCON and the Hindu community to disrupt Bangladesh’s longstanding culture of religious tolerance and social cohesion. He emphasized that ISKCON is being inaccurately painted on social media as a “militant” and “extremist” group.
At the press conference, three specific requests were put forth to the authorities: prompt legal action against those instigating communal unrest, increased security measures for all temples and religious establishments, and rigorous oversight of social media platforms to prevent the dissemination of incendiary misinformation.
