The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been given back the authority to assign the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise for the Chattogram team following a decision by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to lift a previous injunction that had prohibited it from doing so.
SQ Sports Enterprise Ltd had secured an injunction from the High Court Division on October 27, 2025, preventing the BCB from awarding the Chattogram franchise rights to any party other than SQ Sports.
In response, the BCB lodged a Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal against the injunction with the Appellate Division.
After a hearing on November 2, 2025, the Judge in Chamber of the Appellate Division issued an order lifting the High Court’s injunction. Present at the hearing were Barrister Aneek R. Haque, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, along with Barrister Mahin M. Rahman and Barrister Ashiqur Rahman representing the BCB, while Advocate Shishir Monir represented SQ Sports.
A legal consultant for the BCB stated that the stay order means that the board is now at liberty to grant the Chattogram franchise to any party that fulfills the necessary terms and conditions.
