A tragic incident in Noakhali’s Kabirhat this afternoon resulted in the loss of six lives following a collision between a truck and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.
The individuals who tragically lost their lives have been identified as Md Suman, aged 30, from Companiganj upazila; the auto-rickshaw driver, Md Shah Alam, aged 47, from Basurhat Municipality in Companiganj; Tanim Hasan, aged 22, a student at Noakhali Government College from Senbagh upazila; Monira Begum, aged 22, wife of Didar Hossain from Rampur village, Companiganj; Kulsum Akhter, aged 45, daughter of Mahbubul Haque from the same village; and Israt Jahan, aged 22, a third-year honours student at Noakhali Government College.
All six victims were passengers in the auto-rickshaw, as confirmed by Md Shahin Mia, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kabirhat Police Station.
The tragic incident occurred approximately at 2:30 pm in front of Kabirhat Islamia Alim Madrasa on the Kabirhat-Basurhat road, according to OC Shahin.
An eyewitness, Md Rubel Mia, a local resident, described the event stating that the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, carrying five passengers, was en route to Basurhat in Companiganj from Noakhali town. As the three-wheeler reached Islamia Alim Madrasa, it reportedly swerved into the opposite lane due to the driver losing control. Subsequently, a truck approaching from the opposite direction collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw and dragged it for a distance.
OC Shahin mentioned that the collision resulted in three immediate fatalities and left three others injured.
The three injured individuals were rushed to Kabirhat Upazila Health Complex, where sadly one woman was declared deceased by the attending doctor. The other two injured individuals were transferred to the 250 Bed General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival, as informed by the OC.
Following the accident, the truck driver absconded from the scene, as reported by the police officer.
