A prominent Awami League leader passed away in custody at a hospital in Sirajganj today. The deceased, Ahmed Mostafa Khan Bachchu, aged 70, served as the president of the Enayetpur thana unit AL in Ullapara upazila. Family sources mentioned that Mostofa had been battling various age-related illnesses.
Mostafa fell ill while in jail around 9:00am and was swiftly transferred to Sirajganj General Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to a heart attack at approximately 10:00am, as confirmed by Sirajganj District Jail Superintendent ASM Kamrul Huda.
The late leader’s son, Kamal Ahmed Khan, informed local reporters about his father’s pre-existing health conditions. Mostafa had been incarcerated in Sirajganj District Jail since April 24 this year. He was a key suspect in four cases related to offenses during last year’s July Uprising, including the tragic killing of 15 police officers at Enayetpur police station, according to the jail superintendent.
Following the necessary legal processes, the deceased’s body was later released to his family members.
