“Sibling Rivalry Unfolds: BNP vs. Jamaat in Kurigram-4”

-

In Kurigram-4 constituency encompassing Chilmari, Roumari, and Char Rajibpur, voters are facing a unique dilemma as two brothers are set to compete against each other, representing the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami parties.

This unexpected turn of events has stirred confusion among relatives and villagers, as the brothers have engaged in heated exchanges during public gatherings. BNP has put forward Azizur Rahman as its primary candidate, while Jamaat has selected his younger brother Mostafizur Rahman Mostak, both hailing from Jadurchar village in Roumari upazila.

The unprecedented sibling rivalry has garnered widespread attention within the constituency. Local residents acknowledge the brothers’ familiarity in the area but express unease in openly supporting either side due to their simultaneous candidacies.

Reports indicate that both brothers have commenced their campaigning efforts. Sahab Ali, a Char Rajibpur grocery shop owner, remarked that neither sibling enjoys significant popularity or has a substantial track record of public service. He highlighted the possibility of a stronger contender from another party affecting the brothers’ electoral prospects, potentially leading to family discord or confrontations.

A relative, Mohsin Ali from Chilmari, shared that both brothers have approached their family seeking support, creating a delicate situation. He mentioned that they may opt to cast their votes discreetly without disclosing their preference.

In an interview, Jamaat candidate Mostak expressed his admiration for his elder brother Azizur but emphasized the uncompromising nature of politics. He underscored Jamaat’s unity under its leadership compared to internal divisions within the BNP, projecting confidence in the party’s robust support and anticipated victory.

On the other hand, Azizur refuted claims that Mostak previously served under him, alleging that his brother’s candidacy under Jamaat aims to disrupt family harmony. He asserted that BNP’s decision to nominate him has thwarted such intentions, asserting that the people stand with the BNP, ensuring their triumph in the upcoming election.
