In the last 12 hours, a special operation conducted in Narayanganj led to the arrest of 27 leaders and activists associated with the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, which are under prohibition. Tarek Al Mehedi, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), confirmed these arrests today, covering all seven police station areas in the district.
The crackdown targeted individuals linked to the Awami League and its front groups to ensure public order during the party’s declared lockdown initiative. To enforce this, 26 checkpoints were established on major roads and highways.
In a separate operation over the past 36 hours, law enforcement apprehended 29 more individuals connected to these same factions. During these raids, authorities also seized various crude bombs, petrol, and other explosive materials.
Incidents of vandalism occurred on Wednesday night when unknown troublemakers set fire to a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. No further disturbances were reported until noon the following day.
Despite the lockdown announcement, daily life in Narayanganj city and its surroundings proceeded as usual. Businesses opened on schedule, and traffic flow was unaffected, although there was a noticeable tension among transportation personnel.
Traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet highways continued smoothly, with law enforcement conducting inspections on numerous long-haul buses at various checkpoints.
