A 22-year-old individual was fatally shot last night in Mollakandi union of Munshiganj Sadar upazila, reportedly due to longstanding animosity regarding local power dynamics. The victim, identified as Tuhin Dewan from South Beherkandi village, was attacked near Munshikandi Government Primary School around 9:30pm, as confirmed by authorities and eyewitnesses.
According to Tuhin’s cousin, Akash Dewan, who was present during the incident, Tuhin was ambushed by assailants while taking an evening stroll outside his residence. Akash informed local reporters that the attackers initiated the assault by detonating a crude bomb before shooting Tuhin, causing him to collapse immediately.
After the attack, nearby residents swiftly transported the critically wounded Tuhin to Munshiganj General Hospital. Unfortunately, medical professionals at the facility pronounced him dead upon arrival. Dr. Pranto Sardar, the attending physician at the hospital’s emergency ward, stated that Tuhin succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, revealing multiple gunshot wounds on his back and neck.
Saiful Alam, the officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, suggested that the homicide was tied to an enduring local feud rather than political motives. He clarified that tensions between individuals from Beherkandi and Munshikandi villages regarding local influence had escalated, prompting the investigation by law enforcement.
Masud Rana, the member secretary of Munshiganj district Jubo Dal, dismissed any political connection to the incident, emphasizing that the tragedy stemmed from a historic rivalry between two local factions with no affiliation to the BNP.
