While enjoyable Christmas and New Year can leave you with a mountain of extra housework, especially if you’ve had guests over for the celebrations.
Those who toasted the New Year with a glass of prosecco might still be bemoaning how tricky it was to wash those wine glasses, which can be particularly difficult to clean properly. A woman who was left with a heap of glasses to wash after Christmas Day has now shared her top tip for preventing cloudiness and ensuring her glasses always sparkle again.
On TikTok, where she is known as @purdyandfigg, the cleaning guru demonstrated her favourite ‘sparkling glass cleaning hack’, which she discovered after noticing that her glasses kept getting smudgy. In her ‘Boxing Day clean’ video, the clever TikTok user showed her followers her cloudy glasses, commenting on the sheer number of glasses to clean after Christmas Day.
She revealed her trusted hack, advising followers to put their dirty wine glasses in the dishwasher, adding a cup of white vinegar and a crumpled ball of tinfoil to the cycle. While this may seem odd to some, the home hacks influencer encouraged her curious followers to ‘trust the process’. The video then cut to the end of the dishwasher cycle, showing the glasses inside sparkling like diamonds and completely free of smudges.
One stunned user exclaimed: “Wow!”, while another impressed comment read: “Great idea.” The stream of suggestions continued from other followers, with someone recommending ‘half a cut lemon’ and another advising the use of a bit of citric acid.
Brittany Kline, a pro from The Savvy Kitchen, told Homes and Gardens about the aluminium foil method: “The aluminium will help to remove any build-up on your flatware and leave it looking like new. Plus, it’s a great way to eliminate any water spots that may have formed.”
