The 2025 January transfer window has arrived – and several of the Premier League’s top clubs are looking to act.
Manchester United are in desperate need of reinforcements amid theirstruggles so far and Ruben Amorim is well aware of the work required. There are a lack of funds though which complicate their situation and sales may be required first with Marcus Rashford’s situation still unclear.
Leaders Liverpool have some decisions to make themselves. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk can now engage in talks with foreign clubs but the club are negotiating new deals for the pair. Real Madrid have also made their first move in their attempt to try and lure Trent Alexander-Arnold – with an offer being rejected.
Arsenal are eyeing the title at the third attempt but they need some more firepower and a hefty shortlist has been compiled. Champions Manchester City, who are almost certainly surrendering their title, want a strong second half of the season but may need a new face or two to cover for their injury problems.
Stay tuned as Mirror Football brings you all of the latest transfer news and rumours throughout the January transfer window…
Ex-Arsenal striker set for big move
Mika Biereth has agreed to join French giants AS Monaco.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that a deal still needs to be agreed between the club and Sturm Graz, who signed Biereth from Arsenal in the summer for just £4million.
The 21-year-old has scored 15 goals in 25 games for Sturm Graz this term.

Villa in talks to land £25m winger
Aston Villa are eyeing a January deal for Donyell Malen.
Villa have held talks about potentially bringing him in over the January transfer window. A £25million package is being discussed with the German outfit as Unai Emery looks to bring in a new winger, which is a priority position this month for the Champions League outfit, reports the Telegraph.
Malen has fallen down the pecking order in the Bundesliga and Dortmund are open to his sale. The 25-year-old, once of PSV, previously had two years in Arsenal’s academy, but his period at the club never crossed with Emery. Last term Malen scored 15 times for the German outfit.
Almiron heading towards Newcastle exit
Miguel Almiron is set to bring his Newcastle nightmare to an end after an ex-Premier League winner confirmed talks for the winger.
The Paraguayan’s opportunities have dried up at St James’ Park this season. He has made just one Premier League start this season and has just 18 months remaining on his deal.
Newcastle have been trying to move on the 30-year-old in order to make space in their squad. And it now appears that a deal has been struck. According to The Sun, MLS side Charlotte FC have agreed a £16m deal for Almiron. The Paraguayan was linked with the club in the summer but saw a move collapse.
Man Utd to make Gyokeres approach
Man Utd will make an approach to sign Viktor Gyokeres this month rather than wait until the summer.
The Sporting Lisbon striker, 26, was always likely to attract interest from his former boss, Ruben Amorim, after he was appointed as United’s new head coach back in November. But a move for the Sweden star was pencilled in for the summer, not now.
Those plans have changed, though. Amorim has told United’s powerbrokers that they need to sign Gyokeres now given their struggles in the Premier League, say The Star.
Merson urges Arsenal to spend big on Isak
He told Sky Sports: “If I was Arsenal and had the money, I’d go out and buy [Alexander] Isak. I’d break the bank for him. He’s the best of the best and takes Arsenal to another level.
“What I like about Jesus is he’s got back into the team and said ‘this time round, I’m going to get in the box and score goals. If I’m going to stay in this team, I need to score goals’ and that’s what he’s done.
“The goal against Brentford was a proper poachers goal and it’s rare we see him in the six yard box, heading them in.”
Saliba open to Real approach
William Saliba’s camp have responded positively after being approached by Real Madrid.
The France international has established himself as a key part of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI and as one of the standout defenders in the Premier League since breaking into the side in 2022/23. Despite the Gunners’ impressive consistency, Saliba has yet to earn silverware in north London after twice narrowly missing out on the Premier League title.
Real Madrid have been persistently linked with the 23-year-old and according to reports in Spain, have now made him their ‘priority target’. Los Blancos are aware they must break records to secure a deal for the defender, per Sport.
Alexander-Arnold’s huge signing on fee
Trent Alexander-Arnold could end up earning £100million if he does move to Real Madrid.
The Liverpool right-back is the subject of a tug-of-war as the two European giants battle in the market. Liverpool have seen Alexander-Arnold’s contract wind down and he’s six months away from leaving for free, which has opened the door for Real.
They’ve seen a £20m offer rejected but hope to secure a pre-contract agreement. The Reds though still harbour hopes that their academy graduate will choose to pen a new deal.
Real are ready to offer a huge financial package to lure Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital. They prepared to give the England right back a hefty increase on the £180,000-a-week wages he currently earn, but the huge earner would be the signing-on fee, reports The Sun.
Barca eyeing Diaz chance
Barcelona sporting director Deco believes a deal to land Liverpool’s winger Luis Diaz can be struck.
The 27-year-old, who has been an impressive performer under Arne Slot, is unhappy that talks have not started over an improved contract at Anfield according to Sport.
Amorim decides on priority signing
Ruben Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper in the wake of Andre Onana’s inconsistent performances.
United paid out big money to sign the Cameroon international from Inter Milan back in the summer of 2022 but Onana has made a catalogue of high-profile errors since moving to Old Trafford.
And while the 28-year-old has been in better form so far this season, Amorim wants to sign a new goalkeeper to push him in 2025, according to The Manchester Evening News.
The latest in the Olmo saga
Barcelona have desperately been trying to register Dani Olmo beyond 2024, but have now had two attempts and an appeal rejected.
La Liga released a statement on Tuesday evening which read: “FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with La Liga’s economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player after 2 January.”
Barcelona have not given up, though, with the club announcing that they have “applied for a new license” from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to register Olmo and his teammate Pau Victor.
It remains to be seen whether they will be successful and a number of clubs are monitoring the situation, with recent reports stating that Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are all interested in Olmo’s services.
Former owner claims its “ridiculous” for TAA to spend career at Liverpool
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan told the Daily Mail: “Though a lot of Reds fans are unhappy at their local hero contemplating a life away from Anfield, Liverpool’s potential loss could be the country’s gain.
Being a member of the Madrid superstar club has not done Jude Bellingham any harm, has it? For Trent, Real Madrid is a huge opportunity and I wouldn’t blame him for taking it.
“Trent has had a full apprenticeship at Liverpool, rightly received accolades as a Premier League and Champions League winner, and earned the right to choose if his destiny lies abroad. If he moves, there would be a backlash from some quarters who seem to expect any homegrown talent to spend their entire career with one club, which is ridiculous in this day and age.”
Casemiro’s exit route
Casemiro is said to be ready to consider a move in January as clubs in the Saudi Pro League weigh up a move for the veteran midfielder.
The Brazil star, 32, has come in for criticism over the past 18 months after a drop in form. And that has led to speculation that United would like to offload the veteran’s substantial salary despite the fact he impressed during his first season at Old Trafford.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL, there are as many as six Saudi Pro League clubs in the running to sign Casemiro, including Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
Chelsea have issues offloading Chilwell
Chelsea may have to get creative in order to offload Ben Chilwell this month, with the defender refusing to take a pay cut to leave the club.
Chilwell joined Chelsea in a £50million move from Leicester in 2020 and still has two and a half years left on his contract worth £190,000 per week. He has been frozen out of the first team by Enzo Maresca, who has made it clear he doesn’t have a future at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old is frustrated by the lack of game time but is equally unwilling to surrender his lucrative contract to help out the club who handed it to him. The Sun therefore reports that Chelsea may need to pay off Chilwell with a severance package, or arrange a heavily subsidised loan deal to shift him to another club in the January transfer window.
Real eager for Trent deal
Real Madrid remain on confident they will land Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer on a free transfer as the 26-year-old looks to leave Liverpool.
The Spanish giants want the England star to sign a pre-contract agreement sooner rather than later to avoid the possibility of him changing his mind, reports Relevo.
Liverpool, who rejected Real’s offer to take him in January, retain hope he will remain at Anfield.
Man Utd could lose £900m deal
Man Utd could be hit hard in the pocket if things really do go south this season as Adidas are ready to axe their £900 million kit deal with with the club if they were relegated from the Premier League.
Amorim has confessed that dropping down into the second tier is a “possibility” amid their horrendous form, albeit it is unlikely.
The Red Devils are currently seven points above the bottom three.
Cheisa already wants out
Federico Chiesa is reported to be keen on making a move to Italy for the remainder of the season. The former Juventus star has endured a difficult season of injury and has struggled to break into Slot’s team
Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Napoli, Atalanta and Fiorentina have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old. Chiesa is said to be interested in a six-month loan or permanent move but salary has been suggested as a sticking point.
FootMercato claims that Chiesa hopes to find more regular playing time, and that national team coach Luciano Spalletti is pushing for a Serie A return to boost his international hopes.
Man Utd’s sale options
Those on the red half of Manchester are open to offers for several of their ageing stars.
As well as Casemiro those at Old Trafford would be willing to cash in on his Danish colleague Christian Eriksen, who is now 32.
Centre-half Victor Lindelof, who has also just turned 30, could be allowed to leave in January having slipped well down the pecking order.
PSG hand Salah incredible offer
PSG hope to blow Liverpool out of the water with an offer for Mo Salah. Romain Collet Gaudin reports the Ligue 1 side have offered Salah a three-year contract and are prepared to pay the 32-year-old €500,000-per-week for his services.
Such a move would see the Premier League star become the first marquee signing from the Parisian club since Kylian Mbappe’s departure.

Arsenal transfer plans
It seems the Gunners are focusing on the players they already have at their disposal for the moment. Following his side’s win over Brentford, Mikel Arteta was content with his team.
“At the moment it is looking after the players and get the best out of them. At the moment our focus is our players,” he said.
“I really like my players and I believe in what we have as there’s a lot of quality and commitment.
“Let’s see. If there’s an opportunity we will look at it”.

Recall confirmed
Aston Villa have recalled Lewis Dobbin from his season-long loan at West Bromwich Albion.
The 21-year-old, who joined Villa from Everton in the summer made only one league start for Albion, and 16 substitute appearances.
Joint-caretaker WBA boss Chris Brunt confirmed that the two clubs had agreed to terminate the loan.
“Villa have asked to call him back,” Brunt told BBC Radio WM. “He’s not played as much as they’d have wanted for a loan player coming out of a Premier League club.
“We’ll just have to roll with it and move on, but it’s an opportunity for our younger players.”
Man City loan ended
Right-back Issa Kaboré is has returned to Manchester City from Benfica. The loan agreement was set to last until the end of the season but it was decided by both clubs to end the loan at the earlier opportunity.
Kabore featured just seven times.

Dani Olmo update
Dani Olmo may not be registered as a Barcelona player, after the Catalan club failed to meet the financial rules put in place by La Liga but it appears the Spain star has no plans of becoming a free agent just yet.
Despite links to Arsenal and Manchester City, the former RB Leipzig star arrived at Barca’s training ground on Wednesday to continue as normal, per Standard.

Spurs make January decision
Tottenham are considering deliving into the transfer market to sign a new goalkeeper as they continue to deal with the injury to Vicario, per reports. Fraser Forster has deputised but been unable to offer everything that Ange Postecoglou wants from his shotstopper.
It is not that position which has been deemed a priority however, and instead the club want to strengthen further up the field.
The Daily Mail suggest funds are more focused on strengthening Spurs’ attack and defence.
Chelsea return
Chelsea have been offered the chance to re-sign former player Fikayo Tomori according to reports. The defender departed Stamford Bridge for the San Siro and AC Milan in 2021.
After being a regular after completing his move, recently Tomori has played just 13 minutes in 10 matches. Tomori is said to be keen on a return to English football.

Atletico register interest
Atletico Madrid are starting to consider who could become Jan Oblak’s successor in the Spanish capital. One option being considered is Leandro Brey, per Estadio Deportivo.

With Oblak still just 32, Diego Simeone’s side are in no rush but the Boca shotstopper has a release clause of €14m.
