Liam Gallagher, the iconic Oasis frontman, has shared the album that made “all heaven break loose” for him.
At 52, Gallagher is no stranger to expressing his musical influences and often pays homage to The Beatles and John Lennon with covers during his gigs.
However, it was a different band’s album that caused a celestial commotion for the rock star. Gallagher didn’t name the album in his social media post on X, but he did share a track from it before making a comment that went viral about its profound effect on him.
He reminisced: “I remember when I first laid eyes on this record I thought it was the f***ing Ouija board – then I heard it and all heaven broke loose.”
The man behind hits like ‘Better Man,’ ‘Soldier On,’ and ‘Little James’ appears to be a huge admirer of the Sex Pistols.
Gallagher linked to the punk anthem ‘Bodies’ from the seminal album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, released in 1977 and renowned as a pivotal work in punk rock history.
The Sex Pistols are credited with inspiring a generation to become key players in the alternative music scene of the 1980s. Their notorious performance at Manchester’s Lesser Free Trade Hall in June 1976 is hailed as a historic event, attended by future music legends including Ian Curtis and Peter Hook of Joy Division, Morrissey of The Smiths, Mark E. Smith who would soon form The Fall, and poet John Cooper Clarke.
Gallagher, although not at the gig, appears to have been deeply influenced by the Rotten-fronted band. Fans have been vocal in their praise, with one saying: “Brilliant album not a bad track on it and as fresh today as it was 48 years ago.”
Oasis’ lead man’s musical preferences have certainly made an impression, as another fan commented: “Still angry as it was when it was released, still gets played, one of the greatest albums of all time.”
