Anthony Elanga benchmarked Nottingham Forest’s draw against Liverpool, saying: ‘It feels like a loss.”
The Sweden international, 22, believes that Arne Slot’s side took the host’s threat seriously at the City Ground shows that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are a force to be reckoned with. For an hour, Forest were in the driving seat but they had keeper Matz Sels to thank for four saves in the final quarter as the Merseysiders cranked up the pressure.
Elanga said: “I’ll be honest, it feels like a loss, I feel like it was there for the taking. But we will build on this, and I feel like this mentality shows how far we have come – the fact that it feels like a loss.
“Liverpool were aware of us. They were sitting back a little bit and I think we just need to try and keep the ball more. There were loads of opportunities to do that instead of the centre-backs lumping it forward, slowing the game down a little bit.
“We are still learning, it is a decent point at the end of the day, not everyone can get a point out of Liverpool these days.”
Reflecting on the difference from last season, Elanga added: “We probably would have taken a draw 12 months ago. But this season, things have changed, and we approach games wanting to win them now. Teams are aware of us now and know we aren’t going to settle for a point.
“Even at the end there when I was knackered I still wanted to go forward and win the game.
“I don’t want to settle for a draw, I want to win every game and bring that mentality to every single player in the team.”
