Netflix fans have been left asking what a famous face is doing in the latest hit release after a ‘random’ cameo in new series Missing You.
The latest Harlan Coben adaptation was released on New Year’s Day on the streaming platform and is already one of the most watched shows on the service. It follows on from the success of Fool Me Once, which was the last screen version of the popular author’s work.
Missing You follows Detective Kat Donovan more than a decade after her fiancé Josh disappeared. Having never heard from him since she decides to join a dating app.
However, she suddenly sees his face and her world is turned upside down. Josh’s reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.
Viewers who have already binged the new series have shared their surprise about an unexpected cameo just seconds into the first episode. As a voiceover declares “I dream of you” the image of a woman is shown on screen in a blink and miss it moment. Following a confusing shot of a horse being ridden across a dark landscape she is then seen more clearly.
Although it is not immediately clear who the character is supposed to be, it is revealed she is played by internet personality GK Barry, real name Grace Keeling. Known for her podcast Saving Grace, the personality was a campmate during the most recent series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
Now it seems she is adding more credits to her acting CV, although she is only credited for the one episode of Missing You on website IMDB.
One fan simply asked: “GK Barry girl, what are you doing here?”, while another shared their bewilderment saying: “I’m so confused just started watching missing you on Netflix and why the f*** is GK Barry in it?”. A third declared: “GK Barry being in Missing You on Netflix is so random.”
As her fans reacted to her brief appearance she shared a brief response in her Instagram stories simply saying “Happy new year everyone” accompanied by laughing emojis. She has also shared screenshots of some of the positive reviews the show has received.
It’s not the only cameo appearance which has caused a stir, as viewers were also surprised to see Busted member Matt Willis in the first episode.
GK Barry previously told Cosmo UK about her foray into acting: “They approached my manager and said, ‘We’re doing this new Netflix show, and we’d love Grace to be a little part in it.’ And I thought, ‘Well, I’m not going to say no.’ So we got on a call, and they were explaining who my character was, and it made me laugh so much because it’s very on brand.”
