A vast collection of celebrity interviews previously aired on MuchMusic has been newly established on YouTube, known as Much Rewind. Bell Media introduced this official public archive last week, featuring interviews with notable figures such as Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Eminem, and Aaliyah.
While the current collection is limited, MuchMusic’s Dave Krikst anticipates regular additions of old interviews in the upcoming weeks. The archive, which includes 45,000 tapes of historical footage, has been long-awaited by fans who have previously shared their copies on YouTube.
The YouTube channel showcases digitized footage that surpasses the quality of the original MuchMusic broadcasts. The potential inclusion of musical performances in the archive remains uncertain due to negotiations with Canadian record labels concerning fair-use rights for featured songs.
Krikst envisions expanding Much Rewind to include live performances held at MuchMusic’s Toronto studio, with discussions underway with Universal Music Canada for potential uploads. Presently, the focus is on unedited sit-down interviews, highlighting uncensored conversations with ’90s and ’00s stars.
The objective of Much Rewind is to preserve and present captivating and entertaining interviews from the past, with plans to respond promptly to current events. Shorter clips from interviews will also be shared on Much Rewind’s Instagram and TikTok accounts, while current MuchMusic VJs may contribute to contextualizing the content.
Krikst aims for Much Rewind to become a trusted resource for historical moments, bridging iconic archives to a broader audience while ensuring the progression of current MuchMusic content.
