Kelly Osbourne slams ‘disturbing’ celebrities for using LA fires as ‘photo op’

-

Kelly Osbourne has slammed some celebrities for supposedly exploiting the Los Angeles wildfires as a chance to strike a pose, condemning it as “disturbing”.

The 40 year old daughter of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne and TV icon Sharon Osbourne ripped into some stars for apparently using the plight that has claimed at least 25 lives and wrecked over 12,000 buildings to snag some limelight. In an Instagram video, Kelly unleashed her fury: “Is it me being my normal overthinking, cynical self or is it really disturbing seeing all of these celebrities using other people’s pain and suffering as a photo op to say, ‘Look, I’m helping, I’m doing this, I’m doing that.'”

She continued: “I don’t believe you help so that you get attention for helping, I believe you help because you want to,” before adding, “I’m so confused, I think it’s so wrong.” She then said: “No-one asked you to come out and give hugs. Go home.”

While she kept names under wraps, some fans believe she was criticising Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Recently, the couple showed up at Pasadena Convention Centre, an evacuation zone from the infernos, offering food to those hit by the disaster, and they were seen embracing José Andrés of World Central Kitchen, and chatting to Victor Gordo, the Mayor of Pasadena.

FOX LA aired footage showing Meghan and Harry comforting those impacted by the fires. Victor Gordo praised the couple as “great people” with “great personalities”, adding: “They really buoyed the spirits of the first responders. ” He continued: “We visited the command post at the Rose Bowl and people were very happy to see them.”

Numerous A-list celebrities, including Jennifer Garner, Beyonce, and Eva Longoria, have also been lending a hand and making donations in response to the LA fires. The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles have wiped out entire neighbourhoods and killed at least 25 people so far, among fears the situation could continue to escalate over the coming days. Gusty Santa Ana winds are expected to intensify this week, the National Weather Service (NSW) has said, prompting rare Red Flag Warnings over the “particularly dangerous situation” – an alert reserved for “extreme of the extreme fire weather scenarios.”

The Red Flag Warnings cover a large part of Southern California around LA, including densely populated Thousand Oaks, Northridge and Simi Valley. These warnings mean that “warm temperatures coupled with very low humidity and strong winds are expected to combine, bringing a greater risk of fire danger.”

Pasadena fire chief Chad Augustin warned of “potential disastrous wind conditions” as he told the BBC: “Unfortunately, we’re going right back into red flag conditions with some potential disastrous wind conditions between now and Wednesday, with the peak winds expected to be on Tuesday. While we’re making some progress, the end is not even close yet.”
