‘I tried Burger King’s comeback BBQ burgers – one item is my new favourite’

-

It’s a new year which means Burger King fans are being treated to a menu change up – and one high-anticipated burger range has made a comeback.

Burger King is “kick starting 2025 with a bang” as two smoky BBQ burgers are making a return. If you love bacon, BBQ and cheese on your burger, then you could be in for a treat.

The iconic Memphis BBQ King Double and the Memphis BBQ King Chicken are back. Both of these BBQ delights are now available to order in eateries or via delivery after Burger King popped them back on the menu last week on January 7.

The Memphis BBQ King Double costs £8.59, while the Memphis BBQ King Chicken will set you back £7.39. Both burgers are layered with slices of American cheese and topped with streaky bacon, golden onion rings, a dollop of mayonnaise, and smothered in our delicious, smoky BBQ sauce. Each burger is designed to satisfy winter BBQ cravings with savoury and smoky elements.

Accompany the burgers with Doritos Chilli Heatwave Chicken Fries or Halloumi Fries, Onion Rings, Loaded Fries – which have raked in many reviews on social media. Alternatively, keep it classic with the restaurant chain’s signature sides.

While many Burger King super fans may have been itching to see this on the menu, others are likely to be trying the Memphis treats for the first time – including myself. After an expensive December, you likely don’t want to waste your money if it’s not worth it. So, I decided to taste test the Memphis menu items to see if they are really worth the hype.

I haven’t had a Burger King for a while so I was giddy to give the returning treats a try. I ordered the Memphis BBQ King double meal with large fries and a Fanta Orange as well as a BBQ King Chicken Meal. Plus I also added a spicy mayo dip, sweet chilli dip, smoky BBQ dip and mayo dip. Typically if I like to order Chicken Nuggets or a Chicken Royal so, the Memphis BBQ King Chicken called my name first.

The sandwich is a decent size and not too big – perfect for lunch time or those wanting a quick bite. The bread was super soft and the chicken and cheese was good. Initially it tasted like a classic Chicken Royale, but the BBQ flavour was nice and powerful which made it distinctive, plus the onion ring inside was delicious.

While the treat was tasty, it doesn’t compare to some other Burger King items and I wouldn’t run back specifically for the Memphis Chicken.

Rating 8/10.

Burger King has described the fries as “our classic golden fries drizzled with toasted onion and cheese sauces, topped with pink pickled onions and bacon”.

I was a bit baffled when these arrived; they didn’t look very appetising. They had very bright red onions on top, cheese and bacon. The loaded treat was tasty, and I went back in for more following my first bite, but for me it could do with a little more flavour.

The fries tasted like they were from a random takeaway and didn’t offer that classic Burger King fries flavour which fans have loved for ages. Plus, the topping combination didn’t feel like it blended together. Minus the onions I think it could have worked better. I wouldn’t rush to order these again.

Rating 4/10.

Now, we are talking. The beef patties were so juicy and the addition of the cheese, bacon and an onion ring created a perfect mix of flavours which leaves you wanting more. It was so greasy and gorgeous, I was salivating at every mouthful.

Plus the BBQ flavour topped it all of nicely. You could say I am biased as BBQ is my favourite flavour, but if I had to describe my perfect burger and what toppings I would use, the Memphis is the perfect match.

My only criticism – from a girl who likes everything pipping hot – is that is was a touch too cold so I recommend eating this in an eatery instead of via delivery. The additional fries and Fanta Orange were as expected.

Rating 9/10.
