Following the festive season, savvy shoppers are scrambling to get their hands on the popular ‘Too Good To Go’ bargains as Christmas and New Year leftovers dwindle.
The innovative service links people with restaurants and shops that have excess unsold food which can be bought at a fraction of the price, leading to a frenzy of excitement online among deal hunters praising the app for its incredible savings.
One chuffed customer, Claire, took to Facebook to share the contents of her £5 Marks and Spencer ‘Too Good To Go Bag’ from an M&S Moto service area.
She exclaimed her shock at the value, saying: “£5 and got over £65 worth of food if it was full price (about half that value if I count the yellow sticker price).”
Her impressive haul included discounted sandwiches, strawberry milk, a mini pizza, quiche Lorraine, wraps, pasta salads, falafel, carrots with hummus, boiled eggs, a poke bowl, and katsu chicken rolls.
Fellow deal enthusiasts were stunned at Claire’s bag, with one user exclaiming: “Fab bag, those salad bowls are about a fiver by themselves.”
Despite many people picking up huge bargains in their ‘Too Good To Go’ bag, like Claire, another user of the app didn’t have quite as much luck back in October.
Aaliyah Anderson took to TikTok to share what came in her £2 Too Good To Go bag that she picked up from Morrisons. And it’s safe to say she didn’t particularly think it was good value for money.
She held up massive Morrisons bag at the start of the video, exclaiming: “Look at the size of it!” Things still appeared to be going well when she pulled out the first item, a batch of bread rolls. “Can’t go wrong,” she said.
However, she then began to pull more and more bread from the bag. Holding up her second batch of bread rolls, she said: “Oh no… they’re actually hard as rocks! What am I going to do with them? This is such a fail.”
She then pulled more packets of bread rolls from the bag, and even though they weren’t all “hard”, two more batches were “burnt”. In total, she had four six-packs of rolls as well as two bags containing more rolls.
Aaliyah said: “What am I going to do with that? Come on… I know it’s a Too Good To Go bag, but there’s also what’s edible. Would say, this was a big fat fail. And I won’t be getting the Morrisons one again.”
A Morrisons spokesperson said at the time: “Customers and colleagues continue to tell us how much they value Too Good To Go’s Surprise Bags from Morrisons. It saves customers money while also helping us to play our part in reducing food waste. Each Too Good To Go bag should contain quality food nearing its sell-by date, available at a reduced price. On this occasion, those standards fell short and we apologise to the customer for their experience.”
