As the weather takes a chilly turn shoppers are snapping up a ‘soft and cosy’ heated blanket from Debenhams in a bid to ditch the central heating. The throw has been cut by 50% in the retailer’s January sale and only costs 5p an hour to run.
The Ezysleep Heated Over Throw Fleece Blanket is nearly half price at £30.15, a drop from the usual £59.99 price. With a warm lining and adjustable controls to distribute heat it’s being snapped up as a ‘number five bestseller’ in the sale.
At a size of 160 by 120cm it’s large enough to wrap up on the sofa or bed on chillier evenings and the self-operating heat settings has an LED display, heat and timer settings, so it’ll shut off at the directed time to avoid any overheating while you sleep. Plus, in contrast to turning up the thermostat in winter it costs just pennies to run.

The average large electric blanket uses between 150W and 200W to run, when set on a medium to high heat. And it’s 5p for every hour, if you had it on a high setting using an average of 200W per 60minutes.
Being energy efficient is a top concern for households this winter as heating bills get expensive for many which is why the cosy devices are also readily available at Amazon,Lakeland, Argos and more. As a recent shopper said: “Love this blanket, so soft and cosy. Cheaper than putting the heating on for the whole house just for 1 person in 1 room.”
The low cost to run isn’t the only perk to this fleece-lined blanket. It can also be bundled into the wash as the power cord and control are both easily detachable, a design which makes it suitable for the washing machine, vital since UK weather tends to stay cold for months on end.
“We bought two of these and what a game changer they are”, said another recent shopper who bought multiple to dot around the house. They said: “We have one each and use while watching tv on an evening, start in number 6 and soon can drop the temperature down low to stay toasty warm. Fabulous product.”
A third customer said: “Turned up faster than expected and it’s lovely and warm for the sofa , it also turns off itself after a while so it’s safe enough if you forget to turn it off.” Another shopper said it was ‘plenty warm enough’ for them however, they did mention the ‘not exactly intuitive controls’.
