Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last weekend dealt a huge blow to the Gunners’ title hopes. But the Premier League race isn’t over yet – not mathematically at least.
Mikel Arteta’s men take on Wolves on Saturday afternoon in a must-win match if they want to close the gap on table toppers Liverpool.
The fixture is one of six selected matches in bet365’s 6 Scores Challenge, the free-to-play predictor game giving fans the chance to win a share of £250,000 if they can correctly guess the result of half a dozen Premier League matches.
There’s even cash prizes on offer for four and five correct predictions.
Three players have already won big this season, each scooping a share of £250,000. Will you join them this weekend? To help make your predictions, here’s a handy guide to this week’s selected fixtures.
Nottingham Forest frontman Chris Wood has bagged seven away goals this season – only four behind Mohamed Salah and one shy of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
His side are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions, following their 3-2 win against Southampton and an impressive 1-1 draw with table toppers Liverpool.
However, the Cherries are now unbeaten in their previous 11 matches in all competitions, including a 4-1 away win at Newcastle United, and haven’t lost to Forest in the last nine meetings between the two teams.
Arsenal have a favourable record against Wolves in recent seasons, winning their past seven fixtures against the Midlanders.
They’ve also scored at least three goals in three of their past five Premier League matches on the road.
But there is reason for Vitor Pereira to be optimistic. Mikel Arteta’s team have also conceded in each of their past nine away league matches.
The new Wolves manager went unbeaten in his first three games, lifting Wolves out of the bottom three. But after slumping to defeats against Chelsea, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, they now sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
Chelsea were looking like title contenders until recently, when a five-game winning streak was followed by a five-match winless run. That included two surprise losses to Fulham and Ipswich.
It’s a similar story for Manchester City this term, whose suddenly collapsed after their early season good form, and have picked up just three Premier League wins in 13 games, suffering seven losses. They looked back to their best last time out however, with a thumping 0-6 away win against Ipswich.
Erling Haaland, who has just signed an enormous contract to keep him at The Ethiad until 2034, has the joint most home goals this season with nine – a return matched by Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Three of the last five meetings between these two sides have ended in a 1-1 draw. However, The Bees took all three points the last time the teams met – a 2-1 home win back in August.
Thomas Frank’s side are now seeking a league double against their London rivals for the first time since the 1962/63 season.
But it could be a struggle. Brentford have taken just five points from their 10 games on the road this season. Their first and only away win came against bottom-of-the-league Southampton earlier this month.
This Premier League fixture is a repeat of the FA Cup third round match from two weeks ago, when Villa came back from a goal down to record a 2-1 victory against The Hammers at Villa Park.
It follows the Midlanders’ UEFA Champions League tie against Monaco on Wednesday evening, and West Ham will be buoyed by the fact that their opponents have only won once in the league after playing in Europe on six occasions this season.
This will be Graham Potter’s third Premier League match in charge at The London Stadium, his first a 3-2 home win against mid-table Fulham and the second a 0-2 loss at Crystal Palace.
Rubin Amorim has been in charge of United for 11 Premier League matches since taking over at Old Trafford. But it’s been a tough start. His side have managed only 11 points from a possible 33. That includes six losses – two of of which were away from home.
However, Fulham have recorded just one win in their last 20 encounters with Manchester United, recording 16 losses and three draws. Their most recent victory against The Red Devils at Craven Cottage was in December 2009, when they won 3-0.
But The Cottagers can point to a win against Chelsea and draws with Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool this season, making them slight favourites with bet365 to triumph in this encounter.
