Coleen Rooney confessed that one of her sons accidentally spilled the beans about her upcoming appearance on I’m a Celebrity at school before it was officially confirmed.
Appearing on This Morning on Thursday (January 16) alongside presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Coleen discussed her recent stint on the popular ITV reality show. Notably, she finished runner-up in December 2024, narrowly missing out to McFly’s Danny Jones.
During the conversation, Ben inquired about how Coleen managed to keep her I’m a Celeb appearance under wraps before the official announcement.
“There’s that moment when you get asked, but then you have to keep it a secret as well, of course, because the production company wants to keep it a secret,” he pointed out.
“When did you decide to tell the boys… because you’ve got little ones and big ones. The big ones probably could have been told and keep a secret, but the little ones must have been too excited, surely? ” Ben asked, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Coleen explained that she initially kept it to herself but eventually had to tell her older children when multiple media outlets began reporting on the news.
“I didn’t tell no one but it came out in the newspaper, so obviously people started asking me the questions, so I was just raising my eyebrows saying, ‘I can’t say anything’,” she revealed.
“But the boys, I told the older ones, and they were fine with it, but the younger ones overheard.
“We’d watched it as a family for years, and the younger ones would dip in and out because it’s late at night. But then they were excited once they knew I was actually going in. My 11-year-old came in from school one day and said, ‘Everyone’s asking me if you’re going in the jungle’.”
When she asked her son about his response to his mates, Coleen shared that he simply retorted: “I just said yeah, she is, and I’m not going with her.”
This prompted Cat and Ben to laugh, leading Coleen to joke: “ITV won’t be happy about that!”
In another part of the interview, Coleen disclosed that it was truly “special” to witness the pride in her four children after she returned home from Australia. “It’s nice that they’ve really took something away from it and enjoyed it,” she wrapped up.
This Morning airs daily at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
