Widowed Céline Dion shared a photo of herself beside her three children to mark the anniversary of her late husband René Angélil‘s death this week.
The singer, 56, had been married to talent manager René for more than 20 years prior to his death, aged 73, in 2016. Her family includes son René-Charles (RC) Angélil, now 23, as well as twins Eddy Angélil and Nelson Angélil, both now 14.
Céline posted a photo of herself alongside her children recently to mark her ninth anniversary of her late husband’s death. The photo showed the family sat beside each other on an outdoor sofa with a Christmas themed backdrop.
The Grammy Award winner was seen wearing a cream outfit consisting of a jumper, jogging bottoms and trainers in the photos. Her three sons co-ordinated with Céline, each wearing muted colours as part of their respective outfits.
Alongside the festive photo, she reflected on the loss of her late husband. Céline wrote in the post: “René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already. Not a day goes by that we don’t feel your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson and I.”
She continued the caption by writing: “You were my greatest champion, my partner, and the one who always saw the best in me. I honor you and you are forever missed mon amour …” Céline then concluded by stating in it: “We love you.”
The post has since amassed more than 140,000 likes on the platform, with singer Leona Lewis among those who liked it. Fans also took to the comments section to support Céline, with one fan writing: “Sending love to you and your family.” Another said: “Thinking about you and your family. Sending hugs.” A third person wrote: “Lovely photo of you all.”
Céline’s late husband had been her manager for much of her career. René, who was 38 at the time, and Céline, who was just 12, begun working together professionally in 1980. Their relationship is said to have turned romantic when she was around 19, but they reportedly kept their personal relationship out of the spotlight for years.
They went on to get married in 1994 and later welcomed their three sons. René continued to manage his wife Céline until 2014, with him stepping down from the role after being diagnosed with cancer. He passed away two years later in 2016.
Céline – whose career has included winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 – continued her Las Vegas residency following her husband’s death. She’s released two albums, including Courage in 2019, since then and has toured.
The acclaimed singer announced in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome (SPS), which is described as a rare neurological disorder, and took a step back from her career. She later made a comeback last year with a performance at the Olympic Games in Paris though.
