People gobsmacked to learn which huge rock band wrote Rice Krispies jingle

-

Cereal lovers and rock fans alike are gobsmacked to discover that a massive rock band penned a jingle for a cereal company.

Before they hit the big time, topping charts and packing out venues worldwide, this band was crafting tunes for Rice Krispies. The very first advert for the cereal brand showcased the rock legends’ skills, and it’s only now that followers of the band are stumbling upon the ad.

It turns out, The Rolling Stones are responsible for the catchy tune. While hits like ‘Paint it Black’ and ‘Gimme Shelter’ are what they’re famously known for, they once dabbled in commercial song writing before their rise to fame.

Enthusiasts have called the Mick Jagger-fronted tune a “gem of a find” with some finding it “bad but incredible” and humorously suggesting it should’ve featured in their last tour.

Their Rice Krispies jingle has resurfaced and been shared on X, leaving fans amazed by the track. One fan, who shared the clip, commented: “Did you know the Rolling Stones recorded a jingle for Rice Krispies cereal back in 1964? I actually just learned this today…” Amy’s revelation has been met with applause, with one person saying: “Wow… that’s a great share Amy. It sounds just like early ‘Stones.”

Another listener drew parallels between this jingle and another band’s work from the era. They wrote: “Never heard that before! It was a jam! Reminds me of the ads The Who recorded for The Who Sell Out.”

TV fanatics might remember the tune, as it was alluded to in the hit series Mad Men. Here’s what one observer revealed: “It was referenced in Mad Men, but I have never heard/watched the commercial until now. Thanks for posting it.”

The Stones hooking up with a cereal ad had some followers bewildered, with the ‘Bad Boys of Rock n’ Roll’ reputation that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards carried not matching with a family-friendly food.

One fan couldn’t hide their surprise, writing: “I didn’t know this either. It’s amazing Rice Krispies considered them given the fact that they were known as the ‘Bad Boys of Rock n’ Roll’ at the time.”

The Rolling Stones’ very own Brian Jones is believed to be the writer of the jingle while Mick Jagger lent his vocal powers to the piece. One user suggested it could be one of the few songs by The ‘Stones that credits Jones as a songwriter. They wrote: “It’s one of the few things Brian Jones received writing credit on.”

Rock stars turning into ambassadors in high-profile adverts isn’t unheard of though. Bob Dylan stirred up some controversy when he plugged Chrysler motors in a Super Bowl commercial, while late country legend Johnny Cash appeared in an advert for Taco Bell back in 1992.
