Coronation Street has seen plagued with exits over the last few weeks – and now one particular legend is tipped to be the next to leave. The ITV soap has seen the likes of Sue Cleaver, Daisy Midgeley and Yasmeen Nazir announce their exits over the last few months as more stars are rumoured to be axed or leaving Corrie.
Now Coronation Street legend Michael Le Vell is tipped to be leaving the soap after over 40 years on our screens, according to the bookies’ latest odds. Gambling.com‘s Entertainment expert James Leyfield has revealed that Michael Le Vell – who plays Kevin Webster on the soap – is likely to leave with the character’s testicular cancer storyline coming up.
“It looks set to be a tough start to 2025 for Kevin, who will be diagnosed with testicular cancer,” he said. “It’s just 11/10 that Michael leaves Weatherfield this year.” This gives the actor a 47.6 percent chance of leaving the soap.
Michael would be following in the footsteps of his on-screen sister Sue Devaney, who is leaving Corrie later this year. Debbie Webster, who was first introduced on the soap in 1985, is set to be diagnosed with dementia in an upcoming storyline ahead of her exit.
An insider told The Mirror in December: “Sue is a total professional and is already putting her all into what she sees as hugely important long running storyline. She saw the positive impact of the MND storyline and hopes that her dementia story can have the same effect and raise awareness of the condition.”
Michael, 60, has been a star on the ITV soap since 1983, having played Kevin Webster for over 40 years on the cobbles. Last month, Coronation Street revealed that Kevin would be diagnosed with testicular cancer in the coming month, with the illness set to impact his relationship with wife Abi Franklin.
Corrie boss Kate Brooks told The Mirror: “The Websters are brilliant. Kevin and Sally are at the heart of it, then you’ve got Tim and you’ve got Abi. They’re a great character group. As we go into the new year, Kevin will discover that he’s got testicular cancer, which causes a massive strain on his relationship.
“Abi is a really strong character, but she’s going through her own turmoil at the same time. We want to tell this really truthfully. We’ve been working closely with Macmillan to make sure that we tell the story right. “Ultimately, it’s about their relationship and testing that relationship. It was really important that we don’t show Kevin being embarrassed or being reticent to talk to his friends about it. He’s quite open about it, which I thought was quite refreshing.”
