Moment puppy rescued after falling down 60ft well and ‘crying for three days for help’

-

A video has captured the moment that a petrified puppy was rescued after becoming trapped inside a 60ft well.

Eldad Hagar, founder of the charity Hope For Paws, drove 650 miles to save the desperate animal in Macdoel, California, US. She was alerted by locals who heard the pooch cry for help for three days as he remained stuck on the border between California and Oregan. Previous rescue attempts from residents and firefighters had sadly failed.

Luckily, Eldad managed to reach the trapped animal on the remote farmland. The charity founder lowered a sewer camera into the well to see if the puppy was still alive. Once he realised he was, Eldad said he had to “move fast” due to the extreme weather conditions.

In the rescue footage, the scared pooch could be seen positioned close to a wall as the camera was lowered down the well. Eldad managed to hook a piece of equipment onto his collar and slowly carry him to safety. Eldad said: “I had no idea if all his bones were broken, but I knew I had to move fast because it was extremely cold down there and every breath may be his last.” Working alongside a local, the two spent over three hours manoeuvring a loop attached to the camera around the puppy’s neck.

They were able to eventually pull him up, and the adorable pup was in surprisingly good shape after his ordeal. The locals had been throwing food down to keep the puppy going throughout the ordeal over the few days preceding his rescue. Prior to Eldad’s involvement, there were concerns that local farmers would try to kill the puppy to put it out of its misery – but thankfully he was able to be saved. Eldad named the dog Wellington – after the well – and transferred him to a local pet medical centre for treatment.

He received fluids, painkillers and an X-ray found that no bones were broken. Wellington had suffered minor head trauma and some soft tissue pain, and was prescribed a much-needed nap. In a sweet twist, the parents of the local who had assisted Eldad – Jovahny Vazquez – decided to adopt Wellington, who is now seven months old and weighing a healthy 65lbs.
