Inside BBC Silent Witness’ Ellie Haddington’s life including Coronation Street role

-

Silent Witness is gearing up to make a comeback on BBC One with a two-part tale titled Homecoming, set to air on January 13 and 14.

The plot revolves around the team investigating the murder of an estate agent, who was killed by a claw hammer.

The crime brings back some familiar faces, but things take a twist when the murder weapon vanishes.

A host of guest stars will grace the episodes, including Emilia Fox and David Caves, who are both making a return to the BBC series. Scottish actress Ellie also joins the cast of Silent Witness, in the role of Meg McGrath.

Ellie, 69, will be a recognisable face to many viewers. The actress, born in Aberdeen, has featured in numerous popular TV shows and films over the years.

Her big break came in 1995 when she secured the role of Josie Clarke in ITV’s Coronation Street. Ellie starred in over 100 episodes of the soap before departing in 1996, reports Plymouth Live.

She later had guest roles in shows such as Heartbeat, Casualty, The Bill and Wing and a Prayer. Ellie has also appeared in Midsomer Murders, Cutting It, Sea of Souls, Doctor Who and Ordinary Lies.

Viewers may also remember her from BBC’s Motherland where she played series regular Marion, as well as Bad Girls, where she portrayed Joy Masterson.

Ellie honed her acting skills at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre school, from 1975 until 1977. She is the second oldest of five daughters and has previously disclosed that there are no other actors in her family.

The actress confided to The Herald, revealing the reason behind her career choice: “I failed at everything else. I think one of the great things about being an actor is you carry on playing.”

Ellie, not one for the limelight off-screen, keeps her private life under wraps, leaving it unclear whether she’s currently in a relationship and seemingly lacks an online social media presence.

Silent Witness airs on Monday, January 13 BBC One at 9pm
