Liverpool could be missing four players vs Man Utd with Ibrahima Konate decision to be made

-

Liverpool could have FOUR stars sidelined for their key clash with Manchester United.

The Reds welcome Ruben Amorim’s side to Anfield on Sunday afternoon. A victory would see Arne Slot’s side extend their lead at the top of the table to potentially nine points.

It would also see United’s woes continue, having already lost their last four games ahead of their trip to Merseyside. But they could potentially take advantage of ongoing injury issues against Liverpool.

Conor Bradley and Federico Chiesa are already ruled out – albeit the Italian is getting closer to full fitness. Liverpool also picked up a fresh issue in their 5-0 win against West Ham.

Defender Joe Gomez was withdrawn with a hamstring injury, and Slot did not give an optimistic verdict on his fitness. He said: “You saw today an injury of Joe Gomez. If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed.

“In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going to take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit. These situations can happen in a season.”

His absence could see either Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate recalled. The French defender has missed the last seven league games with a knee injury, albeit Slot suggested he could be back in training this week.

It leaves the Dutchman with a dilemma over which defender to include. But Quansah has already laid down a gauntlet should he earn a start.

“It’s such a massive game (against Manchester United) but I just see it as another game we need to win,” the young defender told Liverpool’s official website. “Anything I can do to help the team, if I’m asked to do so, then I’m ready.

“It’s the training we’ve put in and just [about] trying to feel as confident as you can coming onto the pitch really and knowing that you are ready. I think the coaching staff have done a great job of helping us with that – obviously I’ve not played too many minutes but just being ready and knowing that I am ready will always put me in good stead.

“It’s tireless work. It’s hard, to be honest. Obviously you are training a lot, you are running a lot [post-match], but yeah, it’s just trying to keep your body ready and training good habits. That’s what you’ve got to do: just stay ready.”
