Melania Trump has finally spoken out following the devastating terror attack in New Orleans, Louisiana. The future First Lady again used X, a platform taking over from Twitter, to express her distress over the tragedy that unfolded on Bourbon Street.

In the early hours of New Year’s Day, Shamsud-Din Jabbar reportedly steered his truck from Canal Street into the crowded area at around 3:15 am, with an ISIS flag, a suspected bomb, and weapons discovered inside the vehicle. Addressing the violence, Melania stated that it has “impacted” our society deeply.

The suspect behind the horrific New Orleans terror incident has been identified as 42 year old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a former Army serviceman with a driving prohibition. Following the attack that left 15 dead, an Islamic State flag was found in the perpetrator’s vehicle.

“The incidents of violence that have impacted our communities are deeply concerning. The brutality must stop,” Melania posted on X. She added, “My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families who are experiencing such profound grief and loss,” reports the Mirror US.

She concluded with a call to action: “Let us strive for a future where peace prevails.” Meanwhile, Donald Trump also commented on the New Orleans attack, though in a less tactful manner than his spouse. He implied on social media that the incident supported his often-criticised stance on undocumented immigrants.

In a post on his personal platform, Truth Social, Donald Trump made an assertion that has been widely debunked: “When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true.”

The former President added, without evidence, “The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before,” while inaccurately inflating crime statistics. He expressed sympathy, however, for the real victims of violence, stating, “Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department.”

Trump reassured, “The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!”

Details continue to emerge about the tragic loss of life from the recent truck attack in New Orleans. Among the 15 people who tragically lost their lives, tributes are being paid to the memory of a Zulu member and Baton Rouge father of two, a former Lafayette football player, and a teen whose celebration of new beginnings came to a sudden halt.

A student from the University of Georgia was also mourned in a heartfelt statement by university president Jere W. Morehead.

In the aftermath, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that two Israeli citizens were among the injured, as families and communities start to confront the breadth of this senseless tragedy.
