The victims were transported to area hospitals, including Long Island Jewish Hospital and Cohen Children’s Medical Center, The New York Post quoted sources as saying.

The nightclub has a spacious interior with a capacity of 4,000 people and frequently hosts live performances and DJ events.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has yet to release any details about the incident.

The incident occurred on the same day that 15 people were killed and over 30 injured when a vehicle plowed into a crowd in central New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

Police engaged in a shootout with the suspect, who was identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, according to witness accounts reported by NBC News. Jabbar was shot dead during the shootout with cops, two law enforcement officials told the New York Times.
