Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid set to clash with struggling Liverpool

-

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso will face his former team, Liverpool, in the Champions League at Anfield following a strong start to his tenure in Spain. Liverpool has struggled with only two wins in their last eight matches, while Alonso’s Madrid team has been impressive, notably defeating Barcelona in La Liga. The 15-time European champions are eager to showcase their strength against Liverpool.

Alonso’s side suffered their only loss this season in a 5-2 defeat by Atletico Madrid but have shown rapid progress since then. Many Liverpool supporters had hoped Alonso would return to manage the club after Jurgen Klopp’s announced departure. Known for his elegance on the ball, Alonso played a crucial role in Liverpool’s midfield during his time there, contributing to their 2005 Champions League victory.

After a successful playing career, Alonso transitioned into coaching and took over at Real Madrid following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure. Under his leadership, Madrid has won 13 out of 14 matches this season. Alonso’s emphasis on defensive solidity has been a key factor in Madrid’s success, with the team exhibiting a newfound intensity and discipline without the ball.

Alonso’s tactical acumen and ability to adapt during matches have set his team apart from Ancelotti’s more predictable approach. His decision to train at home rather than at Anfield demonstrates his strategic mindset and desire to keep his plans discreet. The coach has also been instrumental in getting the best out of his star players, including Vinicius, Mbappe, and Bellingham.

Vinicius, in particular, has thrived under Alonso’s guidance, showcasing improved performances and professionalism. Mbappe has been in exceptional form, scoring 18 goals across all competitions this season and adding a pressing game to his repertoire at Alonso’s direction. Bellingham, rejuvenated after shoulder surgery, has emerged as a key player for Madrid, contributing crucial goals in recent matches.

Alonso’s focus is on leading Madrid to success and proving that his team can compete for major trophies. As he returns to Anfield, he aims to make a statement and showcase the progress and identity he has instilled in his Madrid side.
