During excavation work in the Boro Kamalabari Paschimpara area of Kamalabari Union, authorities uncovered a grenade. Abdul Aziz, a 75-year-old local resident, found the grenade while cleaning a drain near his residence on Thursday. Upon discovery, Aziz informed his neighbors, who promptly notified the police.
The police safely retrieved the grenade and transported it to the station for further handling. Aziz mentioned that the object raised suspicions initially, but upon closer inspection, he recognized it as a potential grenade. Given the historical context of the area being used by freedom fighters during the war, Aziz speculated that the grenade could be from that era.
Officer-in-Charge Ali Akbar indicated that the grenade is believed to be from the Liberation War and is currently secured at the station. Akbar assured that the necessary protocols for deactivation will be followed. Additionally, a general diary has been filed regarding this incident.
