A woman is seething after her mother-in-law snapped photos of her untidy home and accidentally sent them to her.
The mum, who was working from home, was appalled to receive the images in a family group chat on WhatsApp. She confronted her in-law, demanding the deletion of the pictures. In a Reddit post, the woman expressed feeling humiliated by her mother-in-law’s actions.
She recounted: “I was on a Zoom seminar when my WhatsApp chat popped up on my computer. There were seven photos of the mess in the kids bedrooms, laundry and a few pictures of very messy areas of the garage which was sent to the family chat where there are about 12 of us on my husband’s side of the family and are quite active in.”
She caught her mother-in-law red-handed with a smirk, texting after walking from the garage into the lounge. Upon questioning, her in-law’s eyes widened as she apologized, claiming the photos were meant for her husband.
The woman suspects her in-law was mocking her housekeeping to other relatives but shared the images to the wrong chat. Since the incident, they’ve been avoiding each other.
“I just feel ashamed and it feels violating that someone would go through the bedrooms, laundry and garage to take photos of mess to gossip about us and how we keep our home,” she lamented. “I haven’t spoken to her since and just waiting for her to go.”
Her husband is equally outraged at his mother’s behaviour, finding it hard to comprehend her cruelty. The internet rallied behind the woman, with many saying her mother-in-law was completely out of order.
One commenter said: “If she wants pristine she can stay in a hotel and I would tell her that.” Another expressed sympathy: “I’m sorry she violated your privacy and the social rules of hospitality.” A third advised: “Never let her back in your house.”
