Warning to Brits travelling to Tenerife over common mistake which can cost £124

-

A woman travelling to Tenerife has urged others not to make a common mistake which could cost them a fortune.

Calling herself Summer, she visited the Canary Isles and did not check the proximity of her accommodation with the airport and ended shelling out a lot of money in taxi fares before her sunshine holiday even started. Her faux pas meant long taxi ride to get to another side of Tenerife where her holiday was booked.

The TikTok user, @summeronthegeaux, warned others not to make the same costly mistake as she did. Her flight flew into one part of the island but her accommodation was on the other side of the island.

She said: “If you ever go to Tenerife in the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria) you need to know that there are 2 airports one in the north and one in the south. Even though I knew there were two airports,. The mistake I made is I didn’t check which airport was closer to where I was staying, So if yiu are going there make sure you know the airport which is close to where you’re staying and then land in that airport.

“I unfortunately was staying in the south and then landed in the north and a taxi all the way cost me about 150 euros. There are no Ubers by the way so don’t make the mistake I did, you don’t want to spend 150 dollars on a taxi”

One commenter on her video said: “What we did, since our hotel was in the south as well. We took the bus as close as we could and then the taxi and overall it was quite cheap.”

Another responder to the girl’s post said: “I’m going next week and it looks like I’m going to have to do this, The bus looks like it’s going to take too long.”

The Mirror reported Summer’s followers thought that only one airport in Tenerife is open for passenger flights. But the island’s tourism website clarifies: “The international airport of Los Rodeos-Tenerife Norte is located in the north of the island, in the district of La Laguna which is about 10 kilometres from the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife.”

It adds: “One of the two airports on Tenerife, it mainly operates flights between islands and to mainland Spain, although there are some international flights. Every year almost four million passengers use this airport, which can be reached via the TF-5 motorway.”

And regarding the south of the island, it states: “The Aeropuerto Tenerife Sur – Reina Sofía is located in the district of Granadilla de Abona. From this airport over 150 airlines operate international, national and inter-island flights and almost nine million passengers use it every year making it one of the busiest airports in Spain. It is located very close to the tourist resorts in the south of the island and can be reached via the TF-1 motorway.”
