UGC urges private universities to halt admissions, online exams

Many private universities have initiated the procedure to enrol students for the summer semester

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged all private universities to stop admissions, online examinations, and evaluation during the time of coronavirus.

A press release was issued in this regard by the commission on Monday.

The UGC found that despite the shutdown amid the Covid-19 crisis, many private universities have shamefully initiated the procedure to enrol students for the summer semester.

It also found that universities are conducting exams and evaluations online, violating the UGC guideline.

The commission has urged all private universities to stop these activities.

Earlier on March 23, UGC urged all universities to continue classes online while the higher educational institutions were asked to shut down to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

As of Monday, 12 have died and 123 people have been infected with coronavirus in Bangladesh.Thirty-three have recovered from the virus.
