Udichi Shilpigoshthi, a cultural organization, orchestrated a musical march yesterday to voice opposition against the government’s cancellation of the hiring of music and physical education teachers in primary schools. The procession, dubbed “Udichi to Jamuna,” commenced at 5:00 pm from Udichi’s headquarters on Topkhana Road and proceeded towards the residence of the chief adviser, Jamuna. Before the march commenced, Udichi representatives criticized the government’s decision.
Rahman Mofiz, Udichi’s assistant general secretary, expressed dismay stating, “While Professor Yunus proclaimed the transition from barbarism to civilization on the day the July Charter was announced, I argue that the government’s abandonment of plans to introduce music and PE teaching positions is regressing the nation towards barbarism.” Arif Noor, Udichi’s organizing secretary, denounced the decision, alleging that it succumbed to pressure from “communal forces.”
The procession kicked off with the rendition of the song “Karar Oi Louho Kopat” but was halted by law enforcement at the entrance of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Following the police intervention, the procession advanced briefly before organizers opted to halt the event in front of the YMCA office in Segunbagicha.
