Tyson Fury set for very different career after announcing boxing retirement

-

Tyson Fury could be set to appear on a hit reality TV show, following his official retirement from boxing. The Gypsy King announced in a statement he is leaving the sport, which he shared to social media on Monday (13 January).

Tyson, 36, told fans: “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”

It remains to be seen what Tyson’s next career move will be, but it seems many predict he could be set to venture in to the world of TV – or even run a marathon.

Online bookmaker William Hill has revealed that the odds of Tyson taking on the London Marathon later this year are 5/2. It seems many are keen for him to enter the world of reality TV, as the chances of him entering the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! jungle currently sit at 6/1.

However, switching over to MMA fighting looks unlikely at 12/1, which is the same odds as Tyson donning sequins on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Lee Phelps, William Hill spokesperson, said: “Tyson Fury really is Mr Unpredictable. One minute we’re pricing up the anticipated fight with Anthony Joshua and the next he’s 6/1 to be on this year’s I’m A Celeb! Though he’s announced his retirement, a U-turn can’t be out of the question.

“We think he’ll keep himself fit for the next few months at least in case he changes his mind, so a crack at the London Marathon could come next at 5/2. Light on his feet in the ring, could Fury be one for the Strictly ballroom? He’s certainly in the mix now that he’s hung up the gloves and is 12/1 to take part this year.”

Tyson will no doubt be kept busy at home, with him and wife Paris sharing seven children between them. The Gypsy King previously revealed that his family wanted him to quit boxing for a while.

Speaking to Mail Sport ahead of his fight with Francis Ngannou last year, Tyson admitted: “It must be horrible knowing your husband can be killed in a fight and you’ve got six kids, seven in a minute, to look after on your own. That’s got to be nerve wracking. If Paris was going into something and I knew she could die at any moment in time, I would be nervous to.

“So, pretty daunting task looking death right between the two eyes every time you climb into a boxing ring. But it’s something we get on with. I earn a lot of money. I get danger money and I am well paid for it. We know the risk going in and it is what it is. Nobody wants me to box anymore in my family. I’ve got too much to lose. But, it’s something I like to do, so the ball keeps rolling.”
