Trent Alexander-Arnold’s eye-watering Real Madrid package if he leaves Liverpool

-

Trent Alexander-Arnold could end up earning north of £100million if he does move to Real Madrid.

The Liverpool right-back is the subject of a tug-of-war as the two European giants battle in the market. Liverpool have seen Alexander-Arnold’s contract wind down and he’s six months away from leaving for free, which has opened the door for Real.

They’ve seen a £20m offer rejected to take him to the Bernabeu this month, but hope to secure a pre-contract agreement. The Reds though still harbour hopes that their academy graduate will choose to pen a new deal. As yet, he has given the club no indication over his desire to stay or leave.

Real are ready to offer a huge financial package to lure Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish capital. They are prepared to give the England right back a hefty increase on the £180,000-a-week wages he currently earns, potentially hitting the £400k-a-week mark – but the huge earner would be the signing-on fee.

When Kylian Mbappe moved to Real from PSG in the summer, he agreed on a £128m signing on fee, which will be payable over his five-year contract. That was on top of annual wages of £12.8m.

Alexander-Arnold will not be able to match Mbappe’s total package of £192m, but he will still become one of the best-paid players in the world should he opt to move to Spain, which is looking increasingly likely as the weeks go by. That £20million offered to Liverpool, and rejected by the Reds, may well make it’s way to Trent as his signing on fee – an extremely golden welcome gift from the European champions.

Jamie Carragher, who has been vocal in the risks the 26-year-old is taking if he leaves Liverpool, believes Alexander-Arnold and his team encouraged Real to try and sign him in January to “cover themselves” for when he leaves on a free transfer.

He said on social media: “The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that! I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down. It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free. Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up.”

Liverpool are understood to have no intention of selling Alexander-Arnold this month and would rather lose him for nothing come the summer. Arne Slot’s side remain in contention for a number of honours and their right-back will be worth more to them over the coming months.
