Three Bangladeshi Nationals Killed in India Border Incident

-

Three individuals from Bangladesh were reportedly killed in the state of Tripura in India, as per the Border Guard Bangladesh officials. The bodies were found in the Vidyabil area of Khowai district in Tripura. The deceased have been identified as Jewel Mia, aged 32, from Alinagar village; Pati Mia, aged 45, from Basulla village; and Sajal Mia, aged 20, from Kavilashpur village in Chunarughat upazila, Habiganj.

According to Lt Col Md Tanzilur Rahman, the commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-55 in Habiganj, the bodies are currently at Sampahari Police Station in India. The three Bangladeshi nationals had reportedly entered Karengichhara in Tripura through the Sreemangal border unlawfully a couple of days ago.

It is believed that the victims might have entered India for cattle smuggling purposes and were attacked by local Indian residents out of fear of theft, resulting in their immediate deaths. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the 70th Battalion of India’s Border Security Force (BSF).

Following a request from Border Guard Bangladesh, the BSF has agreed to conduct a flag meeting to address the situation. Investigations are ongoing to gather more information and authenticate all aspects of the case. Tarekur Rahman, a member of Gazipur Union Parishad in Chunarughat upazila, verified that the victims hailed from Sonachang Bazar area under the union.

Additionally, the Border Guard Bangladesh has obtained the national identity cards of the deceased and shared them with Indian authorities for identification confirmation. Reports from local sources indicate that the three individuals were allegedly assaulted by indigenous residents of the hilly region early on Wednesday. Indian police later recovered their bodies, which were then taken to Khowai Police Station.
