Julian Norton, the beloved vet from The Yorkshire Vet, was left fearing he might have caused a marital rift after a particularly delicate extraction from a dog. The 52 year old vet often deals with canines that have ingested odd items, including a puppy that swallowed party poppers and another suspected of eating a mole.
Julian explains that retrieved objects are cleaned and returned to owners for “evidential purposes”. However, one incident led to domestic drama when a Labrador was brought in after consuming a pair of lacy knickers.
Writing for Woman’s Weekly, Julian recounted: “We retrieved a pair of lacy underpants from a Labrador and gave them to the husband and wife, who were so grateful that the dog was OK – until the wife said, ‘They’re not mine.'” This revelation caused quite the stir.
He added: “The couple went off in a big commotion. The dog was fine but I’m not sure about the marriage.”
Julian also shared the importance of being “careful” when discussing pets’ mishaps with their families, as emotions can run high if negligence is suggested. He recalled a recent case where a woman was “quite distressed” believing her dog had eaten a mole, fearing the animal would try to burrow out of her pet.
Fortunately, the woman’s dog was unharmed and she was able to see the humour in the situation later. In another incident, he recalls a puppy that had somehow ingested a bag of party poppers, reports the Express.
His initial fear was that the dog would suffer from a blockage or the poppers would detonate inside the pup. Thankfully, the puppy was alright and began to excrete small pieces of party popper.
Julian gained popularity in 2015 as the primary practice featured on The Yorkshire Vet. Since then, he has made several appearances on shows like Our Great Yorkshire Life.
It comes after Julian revealed the real reason behind quitting the Skeldale clinic.
Vet Julian Norton has been a star of The Yorkshire Vet since its inception over a decade ago, alongside legendary vet Peter Wright. However, in 2018, both decided to bid farewell to Skeldale and explore other work opportunities, despite their years of dedicated service.
Not long after, Julian announced his departure, expressing dissatisfaction with the direction the practice was heading. Speaking to the Darlington and Stock Times, the 52 year old said: “It wasn’t the way I wanted the practice to go. I didn’t think it offered necessarily the best way forward.”
He added: “It was a difficult decision, it was part of my life, it was a big change.”
Writing in The Yorkshire Post’s Country Week, he said that he had “thoroughly enjoyed” his years at Skeldale and will “always treasure my memories” of working at the iconic practice.
