Supporters Protest Nomination Snubs in Madaripur and Kushtia

-

Supporters of BNP leaders faced roadblocks in Madaripur and Kushtia after their respective leaders were denied party nominations. In Madaripur, followers of BNP leader Sajjad Hossain Lavlu Siddique, who was snubbed for nomination, obstructed the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway for nearly two hours. Demonstrators expressed their discontent after learning that Kamal Zaman Molla had been chosen as the BNP candidate for the Madaripur-1 constituency. The protest began around 8:00 pm at the Panchchar intersection in Shibchar upazila, causing significant traffic congestion on both sides of the expressway. The demonstration ended around 10:45 pm following the intervention of Shibchar Highway Police, local law enforcement, and army personnel. Vehicular movement gradually returned to normalcy after the authorities’ intervention.

Simultaneously, in Kushtia, supporters of former BNP MP of Kushtia-3 (Sadar) constituency Sohrab Uddin staged a protest by blocking the road. They initiated the protest at Mozampur Gate in the town by setting tires ablaze around 9:00 pm. Protesters highlighted Sohrab Uddin’s longstanding service as the general secretary of the district BNP and deemed his non-nomination as unjust. They demanded a reconsideration of the decision and urged for Sohrab Uddin to be nominated to run in the upcoming national election. Police arrived at the scene to maintain order and address the situation.
