Shibchar boys clinch U-15 Pioneer title

Johny sealed the winner in the 84th minute after his deflected shot found its way home

Ilias Ahmmed Chowdhury Smrity Sangsad, a club based in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, lifted the title of the Dhaka South and North City Corporation Pioneer (U-15) Football League 2019 after beating Football Club Uttar Bongo 2-1 in the final at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital Thursday.

Jafar Ullah Sharafat put the victor ahead in the 20th minute, placing home a pass of Johny Sheikh before Leon Pradhan cancelled the lead eight minutes later during a goal-mouth scramble.

Johny, who stole the show with his skills and pace, was once seen dribbling past three defenders while breaking into the danger zone.

After being adjudged player of the final with a goal and an assist, the striker said, “Here almost all of us are from Shibchar and have been playing a long time together so we have a good understanding. I dream to play in the premier league one day.”

The team’s top scorer Jafor however, hail from Satkhira but has been together with Ilias SS for more than six months. 

He said, “I became man of the match seven times before but this is the best game because it is the final and my first time at BNS. We worked really hard under our coach [Jalal Molla] for this trophy.”  

Meanwhile, Uttar Bango’s Mohammad Ali took home the player of the tournament award while Ratul Hawlader of FC Brahmanbaria was the top-scorer and Uttar Bango’s Milon Mia the best goalkeeper.
