Roisin Cryan’s heartbreaking tributes after sport star Conor Loftus’s fiancée found dead

-

Tributes have been paid to a woman whose body was recovered from a river this week.

Róisín Cryan was named by police in Ireland after being discovered in the River Moy in Ballina. The 28-year-old was the fiancé of footballer Conor Loftus, who plays for local team Crossmolina Deel Rovers.

The club wrote on X: “would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Róisín Cryan.”

One friend said of her death: “I met Roisin during what turned out to be the best summer of our lives, living together in San Francisco. From the moment we met, it was clear she had a special kind of energy – gentle, kind, and full of life.

“We were always up to some kind of mischief together, creating memories I’ll carry with me forever. Roisin was one of the most gentle and kind-hearted people I’ve ever known.

“I feel truly lucky to have shared that unforgettable summer with her. Sending condolences to her family and friends during this time. May beautiful Roisin rest in peace.”

Another person added: “Heartfelt sympathy to Joe, Marguerite and Roisin’s sisters and to the extended Cryan and Loftus families on your great loss. Maeve and Roisin were always in and out of our house when they were children, playing with the dog and chatting to my parents, Eamonn and Bridie.

“With my sympathy and fond regards. Take good care of yourselves and of each other.”

Also among those paying tribute were the local GAA club Shannon Gaels, The Irish Mirror reported. They wrote: “On behalf of the entire Shannon Gaels GAA community, we extend our deepest condolences to the Cryan family and loved ones of Róisín.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. May you find strength and comfort in each other, and know that we stand with you in your grief.”

Rosin is survived by her parents Joe and Marguerite, fiancé Conor, sisters Annmarie, Clare, Ruth and Maeve. Her remains will repose at The Heritage Centre, Chapel of Rest, Church Lane in Carrick-on-Shannon tomorrow from 3pm to 7pm. Removal to St. Mary’s Church will take place on Tuesday evening arriving at 6pm.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11am, followed by burial in Drumlion Cemetery. Donations can be made to Grainne Uaille and River Moy Search and Rescue.
