The 135th death anniversary of the renowned mystic bard Fakir Lalon Shah was commemorated in Munshiganj on Friday evening with a vibrant cultural event arranged by the district administration. The event took place at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Kachari area, where attendees were treated to heartfelt performances of Lalon’s classic songs and captivating dances by young artists influenced by his spiritual teachings.
Led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Musabberul Islam, the gathering attracted a diverse audience including music enthusiasts, cultural proponents, and students who came together to honor the iconic Baul saint celebrated for advocating humanity, equality, and unity irrespective of social distinctions.
Local music schools and cultural organizations showcased their talents on stage, evoking the spirit of Lalon’s akhda. The audience was enthralled by renditions of Lalon’s renowned songs like “Manush Bhajle Sonar Manush Hobi,” receiving enthusiastic applause.
Lalon Shah, who was born in Kushtia during the 18th century, is revered as one of Bengal’s most esteemed mystic poets and humanitarians. His profound lyrics continue to resonate with those seeking spiritual and societal liberation throughout the ages.
