The Premier League have confirmed that Santiago Bueno’s goal against Newcastle was disallowed for handball.
The Wolves star thought he had bagged a consolation for Vitor Pereira’s men, who ended up losing 3-0 on the night. But his strike was eventually ruled out after a VAR check ruled he handled the ball before scoring.
The statement read: “Bueno’s goal was awarded on-field. The VAR deemed that Bueno handled the ball immediately before scoring and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”
Alexander Isak’s brace had given the hosts a comfortable lead before the in-form Swedish striker teed up Anthony Gordon for Newcastle’s third.
VAR also checked Gordon’s goal prior to ruling out Bueno’s strike late in the game. The statement read: “The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR as Isak was in an onside position in the build-up.”
Newcastle have now won NINE matches in a row and move into the top four picture at Chelsea’s expense after the Blues dropped points against Bournemouth on Tuesday.
Wolves, on the other hand, head into the weekend in the relegation zone, albeit only on goal difference. They travel to Chelsea on Monday in their next fixture.

Isak became just the fourth player in Premier League history to score in eight successive games and Newcastle’s talisman revelled in the moment post-match, telling Match of the Day: “I feel amazing. Individually I feel free and confident but looking at the team we are doing so well as well, defending and with threats going forward. It is a team and I have to keep contributing with goals.
“When we play at our best the players will feel free. In my position as well I want to be able to express myself in the best way I can.
“Records are things you enjoy after your career. I go into every game with the same mentality – to score goals as that helps the team.”
