The linesman cleared of allegedly elbowing Andy Robertson is set to be reunited with the Liverpool star after nearly TWO years.

Premier League official Constantine Hatzidakis was embroiled in an incident alongside the Reds defender during a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in April 2023. He appeared to throw out an elbow at half-time of the match.

And he was subsequently suspended by the FA as they conducted an investigation into the incident. But having been cleared, Hatzidakis has made his return to officiating and will now be involved in a Liverpool game on the pitch.

The Englishman will act as a linesman during Arne Slot side’s Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham. He will represent a member of the officiating team alongside referee Stuart Attwell, assistant ref James Mainwaring and fourth official Tim Robinson.

Hatzidakis will hope there is no lasting impact between the pair having privately apologised to Robertson. A statement at the time read: ‘”I have discussed the matter directly with Andy Robertson during an open and positive conversation. It was not my intention to make any contact with Andy as I pulled my arm away from him and for that I have apologised.”

Meanwhile, the FA cleared the official of any wrongdoing. A statement read: “We have thoroughly reviewed all of the evidence in relation to the recent incident at Anfield involving the Liverpool defender and match official, and we will be taking no further action.

“Our comprehensive process involved reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and PGMOL, as well as multiple angles of video footage, in relation to both the incident and its surrounding circumstances.”

At the time, the incident between Robertson and Hatzidakis triggered ex-Manchester United star Roy Keane to launch into a tirade aimed at the Liverpool man. Asked if he has ever seen a similar clash, he replied: “No, not really.

“But Robertson, do you know what, does he grab the linesman first? I’m not sure, but he’s complaining. He should be more worried about his defending.

“Do you know what it is, that Robertson? I’ve watched him a number of times. He’s a big baby. That’s what he is. Just get on with the game and concentrate on your defending. He does grab the linesman first.”

Robertson, 30, has made 24 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season. Before the clash against Tottenham, Slot’s side are at first in action against fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield this weekend.
