Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is reportedly happening today – insiders say only hours left before debut

-

According to reputable leakers, the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is coming today, as Nintendo fans scramble to theorise about what the company’s next generation of consoles could look like.

Update: Aaaaand it’s happened! The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially revealed with a first look at the new console.

Original story: The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a long time coming. After a long lifecycle, the inventive handheld console hybrid has been the home of a number of boundary-breaking games in the The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario series, and has grown to be one of the best-selling consoles of all time.

All things must end, though, and after the announcement that the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal would come before the end of the fiscal year in March 2025 (via a Nintendo tweet), players have been fizzing with excitement to see what’s up Nintendo’s sleeve as the company swats away speculation by shooting down Switch 2 leaks to save its own impending announcement. And thanks to a handful of leakers, we may finally know when to expect the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal. It just so happens that, apparently, the time is now. Here’s what we know about the massively anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 reveal.

According to podcast host and insider, Nate the Hate, the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is set to come today in the form of a trailer on social media, spotlighting the hardware of the console before going on to announce a software showcase to come later on. “I can share with you right now that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week,” Nate the Hate says in a Nintendo 2025 predictions video (via VGC). “I have been told the Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16“.

He also adds, “What I’ve heard is that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any…presence of games.” This compelling claim matches up with the way that the Nintendo Switch was revealed, albeit presumably with a little less flair and excitement surrounding its new features like its dock and Joy-Cons, which by now are fairly standard to users.

Nate goes on in the video to predict that following the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, the console could arrive for consumers in May or June 2025, which would make sense given the fact that the Nintendo Switch offered a gap of five months between its announcement and reveal, and its arrival in June would match this. Even so, with more power under the hood and stock issues for parts marring the current console generation, we could see a longer wait.

There’s no telling how much the console could cost, but given that the original Nintendo Switch launched with a price tag of £279.99 / $299.99 / AU$469.95, we can probably anticipate a slightly more expensive console as it is expected to be harbouring better technology, and will be launching into an economy that has seen raised prices across the board. An estimated pricing structure of £300 / $365 / AU$590 seems a more likely eventuality at this stage, though there’s a good chance that consumers could be treated to something a little more costly.

The leak is harbouring a massive claim, and if it comes true, then it would make this otherwise ordinary Thursday perhaps one of the most important in Nintendo’s history. We don’t know about you, but we didn’t wake up this morning expecting the entire gaming industry to change by the day’s end, but we’ll certainly take it.
