New Zealand’s head coach, Rob Walter, highlighted the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh as a crucial opportunity to give exposure to their emerging players and focus on gaining valuable experience. With the series commencing on April 17, New Zealand will be missing key players who are engaged in the Indian Premier League and the ‘A’ team tour to Sri Lanka.
Walter emphasized the significance of facing strong opposition like Bangladesh, who recently defeated Pakistan, to test the less experienced players in challenging foreign conditions. He stressed the importance of on-field experience for player development and mentioned the team’s dedication to continuous learning and improvement both individually and collectively.
Acknowledging the wide participation of New Zealand cricketers in various global competitions, Walter expressed contentment in utilizing opportunities to develop a broader pool of players rather than relying solely on a core group. He highlighted the positive impact of players competing in leagues such as the IPL, PSL, and matches in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
In terms of team strategy, Walter underlined the need for adaptability, stating that the focus will be on responding to match conditions rather than adhering to predetermined plans. He mentioned the team’s readiness to utilize spin or pace bowling based on the game’s demands.
The second ODI is scheduled for April 20 in Mirpur, followed by the final match in Chattogram on April 23. Subsequently, the T20I series will commence with the first two matches in Chattogram on April 27 and 29, concluding with the final game in Mirpur on May 2.
