4 JMB members arrested in Narayanganj

Two bodies of Lebanon expats brought home: The bodies of two Bangladeshis, who died in Lebanon 23 days ago, were brought to Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on board a plane around 12:30 am on Saturday. The deceased Abdullah Mia, 35 and Mozammel Mia, 22 , residents of Gobindapur village of Habiganj Sadar upazila, had gone to Lebanon two years ago, said Jafar Uddin, brother of the deceased Mozammel Mia. On February 12, Lebanon police recovered the bodies from a room in Sur district of Lebanon.

Kurigram teacher wants tiny ‘tiffin allowance’ revoked: A teacher of a government primary School in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram has appealed for a revocation of Tk 200 as monthly tiffin allowance for teachers, terming the amount insufficient and disrespectful. Monibul Haque Basunia, an assistant teacher of Abul Kasem Government Primary School, on Thursday wrote a letter to the upazila education officer in this regard. Rajarhat Upazila Education Officer Md Solaiman Miah confirmed the matter.

4 JMB members arrested in Narayanganj: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Signboard area in Sadar Upazila  . The arrested are Mashrur Anwar, Mohammad Kausar Alam, Asif Imtiaz Mohammad Ribat and Hafez Md Rakibul Islam. Many books and leaflets, provoking extremism, were also recovered. RAB-11 captain Lt colonel Imran Ullah Sarker disclosed the information at a press conference at the RAB headquarters in Siddhirganj on Saturday.

Fugitive convict arrested in Dinajpur: Police on Saturday arrested a fugitive convict from Kushhakhali Danga village of Birampur upazila. The arrestee Abdur Rashid,55, was sentenced to life term imprisonment on January 19 for strangling his wife Sabina Yasmin to death in 2010, said Birampur police station OC MD Miniruzzaman.

Drug trader held with Yaba in Sylhet: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a drug trader along with 6,750 yaba tablets from Gowainghat upazila on Friday evening. The arrestee Md Abul Hossain, 22, is from Latu village in the upazila. A team of the elite force conducted a drive at Bagher Sarak area and arrested Abul with the Yaba pills, said Rab-9 Additional Superintendent of Police and Media Officer Md Samiul Alom. Later, he was  handed over to Gowainghat police station, he added.

Child found dead in Brahmanbaria: Police recovered the body of an 11-year-old boy from a pond in Dhamsar village of Kasba upazila on Saturday. The deceased, Sakib was the son of Siddiq Mia from the village of the upazila. Kasba police station OC Mohammad Lokman Hossain said: “On being informed, we recovered the body and sent it to Brahmanbaria General Hospital for autopsy.”

Current nets worth Tk 220 crores destroyed: A joint team of river police and district fisheries office on Saturday in multiple drives seized over 7 crore metres of illegal current nets worth over Tk200 crores from Firingi Bazar, Malirpathar and Mirazpur areas in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj. Munshiganj Department of Fisheries Senior Assistant Director Sunil Mandal said : “We burned the seized current nets on the banks of Dhaleswari river in Mirkadim area. None was detained during the drive.”
