Man’s disturbing search history unearthed as police search landfill for missing girlfriend

-

Authorities combed through a Michigan landfill on Monday, seeking clues in the disappearance of Detroit woman Ashley Elkins, 30, who vanished over a week ago. Elkins was last seen on Jan. 3 after she left her ex-boyfriend Deandre Booker’s residence to run errands at about 8:30 am the day before.

Booker is now facing charges for allegedly lying to police, with accusations that he Googled “is blood traceable” and “how to beat a polygraph” during the investigation. Images from the scene show investigators in yellow suits scouring the Macomb County landfill in Lenox Township.

Roseville Police Chief Mitch Berlin confirmed the search efforts, stating they were aimed at “Trying to bring closure to the family,” and noting the presence of “We had 40, 50 officers out here.”

Although Elkins lived in Warren, her vehicle was located in Roseville, another suburb of Detroit. The search is set to continue into Tuesday, reports the Mirror US.

Booker, whose bond is set at $250,000, (roughly £200,000) is due back in court later this month.

The Pine Tree landfill, where the search is taking place, is a large site that receives waste from across southeastern Michigan. In a similar case, Detroit police dedicated the summer of 2022 to searching for the remains of 17 year old Zion Foster, who was believed to have been disposed of in a dumpster.

Despite their efforts, Foster’s remains were not recovered, but a man was convicted of second-degree murder in connection with her death and is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence.

The decade-long mystery of a missing Florida mother has also finally been unravelled after divers in Melbourne discovered the remains of the 47 year old professor who disappeared in 2014. The dive team from Sunshine State Sonar found Katya Belaya, a college professor and mother of three, at the bottom of a retention pond on Dec. 20.

Her body was inside her submerged 2003 Honda Odyssey, which they located after nearly four months of searching, as reported by WFTV. Belaya had told her daughter she was popping out to the store when she vanished in 2014.

The pond where she was eventually found is just 1.6 miles from her home. Mike Sullivan, co-founder of Sunshine State Sonar, shared with WFTV that despite searching numerous bodies of water around Belaya’s home over the years, they had come up empty-handed until now.

A tip-off about Belaya’s case from one of their group’s followers and assistance from police detectives with her last cellphone location led them to the discovery. “We searched 33 bodies of water before we found her. I just thought that this was one of those cases that was gonna go 400 or 500 bodies of water before we found her. I think we were all pretty surprised, actually, how quick we ended up finding her,” Sullivan explained to WFTX.

Officers from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Belaya’s identity on Dec. 26, but they told the media that determining a cause of death may be impossible due to the state of her remains.
