Love Island fans baffled over Marcel Somerville’s age and marriage status

-

Love Island: All Stars is back for its second series on ITV2 tonight.

And fans of the Love Island can’t wait to watch it after recently finding out the cast full of fan favourites that are set to appear on the reality show.

These include season 8 hunk Luca Bish, season 5 beauties India Reynolds and Elma Pazar, season 9’s Olivia Hawkins, season 10’s Catherine Agbaje and Ronnie Vint from last year’s series.

However, the announcement that season 3 favourite Marcel Somerville has caused the biggest stir, with many baffled over his age and marriage status.

At 39, the Blazin’ Squad star is much older that the show’s usual cast. The rapper is also still legally married to wife Rebecca Vieira, who he shares son Roman, 4, with however it’s thought the pair are in the process of divorcing.

Marcel is due for an awkward encounter on the show too, as he’s set to reunite with ex-girlfriend Gabby Allen, who is also a part of the cast.

Asked why he wanted to go back om the villa, Marcel said: “I thought that I’d completed love and found my happily ever after – but the universe had a different plan. Somehow every time my life’s at a crossroads, I’ve got the opportunity to do Love Island. So I thought, why not?”

Writing about Marcel’s latest Love Island appearance on X, one person exclaimed: “This man is a whole 39-years-old (thirty nine) with a whole child and while wife that he hasn’t divorced going on Love Island by the way.”

The post has since made its way on to a Love Island Facebook group, where it has gone viral, racking up hundreds of likes.

However, despite many having the same opinion as the original poster, others also supported Marcel for going on the show, as one person wrote: “Age is just a number.” Another sarcastically added: “Life stops at 39, does it?” While a third chimed in: “Hardly doubt he’ll be getting married in the villa, if this is what he wants to do then good luck to him.”

A fourth also agreed: “What’s wrong with having a child and moving on? Are you saying no one is allowed to move on and be happy if they have a child or married now?”

Love Island bosses have reportedly defended their decision to cast Marcel on the show, despite being technically married. Chatting to The Sun, Love Island executive producer Mike Spencer urged fans to “give the guy a break” and insisted Marcel is a single man.

When asked about Marcel’s marital status, Mike replied: “He had a wife! Marcel is single. He’s ready to mingle. “Give the guy a break. He’s had a tough time.”
